Rules and Regulations for Polk County Fair Demo Derby

  1. Drivers must wear crash helmet and seat belts at all times in the arena. Belts must be bolted solidly to the floor or the frame preferred.
  2. All drivers and pit persons will sign a waiver releasing all officials of any responsibility and liability in derby contract.
  3. If a driver or pit person is under the age of 18, they must have a waiver of liability signed by a parent or legal guardian. NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 12 ALLOWED IN THE PITS!!!
  4. ALL CARS MUST PASS TECH INSPECTION, before receiving qualifying stick.

  6. Passenger cars permitted—no convertibles, hearses, AMC Pacers, AMC Gremlins, or Chrysler Imperials (or Imperial sub frames.
  7. No setback of engine allowed, engine must be in original position.
  8. Cars must be numbered on both front doors and roof signs (18" in height) are MANDATORY .
  9. One loop of chain, cable, or bolts up to 5/16" in diameter in 4 positions on the hood.
  10. 3 window bars in front of driver must be welded or bolted to roof and windshield cowl.
  11. Radiator must remain in stock location, no coolant inside of driver's compartment.
  12. Battery is to be moved into passenger compartment close to where glove box of vehicle is located. Battery must be securely fastened to the floor in a battery box made of wood or metal, sides of box must be as tall as battery box. Must have some type battery cover in case of explosion. NO RUBBER STRAPS ARE ALLOWED .
  13. Hood must have 18" square access hole in hood in case of fire.
  14. NO WELDING OR BOLTING OF HOODS, TRUNK LIDS, INNER FENDERS, OR OUTER FENDERS. Refer to rule 8.

  16. Fenders may be trimmed for tire clearance, bumpers may be trimmed.
  17. Doors cannot be secured with more than two loops in window area. Driver's door MUST be reinforced with a bar no longer than 3" in front and rear of driver's door seam and must be bolted or welded in a horizontal fashion.
  18. A support bar behind driver's seat is allowed. A steering support is also allowed. Maximum 4" diameter round or square tubing with max 6"X6" flat plate on ends of pipe (no galvanized pipe allowed). No other cross member allowed to frame vehicle.
  19. All windows are to be removed, all broken glass must be out of vehicle, no debris in car or trunk area (you will have to clean out garbage). All burnable materials must also be removed for your safety.
  20. All mirrors and chrome must be removed.
  21. Stock type bumpers and mounts only, no reinforcing allowed. Bumpers have to bolted to frame – NO WELDING .
  22. No sand or cement in frames, no modifying or reinforcement allowed.
  23. All bumpers must meet 18" max to bottom of bumper on fresh cars, prior ran cars will be inspected.
  24. Rear ends may be locked or welded solid.
  25. No tires are to be glued or screwed to rims, no fluid or sand in tires – air only!
  26. Tires must be DOT approved, no larger than 15" rims, snow tires are okay. No mud or implement type tires are allowed. No tire sidewall flaps allowed.
  27. Stock gas tanks must be removed. Fuel injected cars may move stock tank to back seat. Marine or snowmobile fuel tanks preferred, must be mounted behind driver's seat, no more than 5 gallons of gas in tank during event. Pick-up gas tanks must be located towards the front of box. All gas tanks are to be securely fastened – NO RUBBER TARP STRAPS ALLOWED . No plastic fuel filters allowed.
  28. Transmission coolers are allowed – high temp hose or steel double clamped – all hoses must be covered.
  29. If a cutting torch is brought into the pits, you MUST have a fire extinguisher with you.

ARENA RULES

  1. No intentional contact of driver's door – JUDGES DISCRETION .
  2. No sand-bagging, you must use your car to full capacity. Cars must make direct contact with a car not counted out within one minute
  3. NO TEAM DRIVING.
  4. No alcoholic beverages allowed in pits until the end of event.
  5. Derby officials have the right to inspect or reject any cars with no refunds at any times before, during, or after event.
  6. Failure to observe these rules will result in disqualifications with NO REFUNDS .
  7. No drivers or pit persons shall attempt to speak to any official who is flagging. Flag men and firemen are watching for safety, LEAVE THEM ALONE .
  8. DO NOT REMOVE YOUR HELMET, SEAT BELT, OR LEAVE YOUR CAR WHEN IN ARENA UNDER GREEN FLAG, you may get out during a RED flag with official's approval, you may get out during a flag with official's approval.
  9. One fire per car per heat or feature allowed. Second fire disqualifies car from heat or feature.
  10. All cars are being timed in contention until their time is up, then you must break your stick.
  11. Winner will be awarded to the last car running and having made the last hit. Places will be awarded accordingly, you can still place while under the timer.
  12. Unsportsmanlike conduct in the pits or arena by you or your team will be grounds for automatic disqualification.
  13. Speed limit in the pits in 5 mph, drive carefully.

    THE POLK COUNTY FAIR RACE OFFICIALS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO MODIFY OR AMMEND ANY AND ALL OF THE RULES LISTED HERE OR AT THE EVENT.
