2008 Rules and Regulations for Polk County Fair Demo Derby

1. Drivers must wear crash helmet and seat belts at all times in the arena. Belts must be bolted solid to the floor or (preferred) the frame.
2. All drivers and all persons in the pit will sign a waiver releasing all officials of any responsibility and liability in derby contract.
3. If a driver or pit person is under the age of 18, they must have a waiver of liability signed by a parent or legal guardian. NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 12 IS ALLOWED IN THE PITS!!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
4. ALL CARS MUST PASS THE TECH INSPECTION BEFORE RECEIVING QUALIFYING STICK.
5. Passenger cars permitted, but NO convertibles, hearses, Chrysler Imperials or Imperial Sub-Frames!!!
6. Pick-ups will be 2 wheel drive - ½ ton ONLY, NO 4X4 conversions. You must also cover the gap between your cab and box to keep driver fingers from getting pinched.
7. Fwd class- 80 and newer, 4CYL and V6: Some exceptions, so you must call for pre-approval. NO REAR WHEEL DRIVE CARS WILL BE ALLOWED.
8. Engine and Drive train MUST match the make of your vehicle.
9. Cars must be numbered on both front doors and roof sign- 18 in height are MANDATORY.
10. One look of chain or cable, max diameter 3/8 in two positions in front and rear of vehicle, no hood hinges- no hood, 3 window bars in front of driver MUST be welded or bolted to roof and windshield cowl.
11. Radiator must remain in stock location, no coolant inside of driver's compartment.
12. Battery is to be moved into passenger compartment close to where glove box of vehicle is located. Battery MUST be securely fastened to the floor in a battery box made of wood or metal. The side of the box must be as tall as the battery case. MUST have some type of battery coverage in the event of explosion. NO RUBBER STRAPS ARE ALLOWED!!!
13. Hood must have an 18 square access hole in hood in the event of fire.
14. NO WELDING OR BOLTING OF HOODS, TRUNK LIDS, INNER FENDERS, OR OUTER FENDERS ALLOWED.
15. Fenders may be trimmed for tire clearance, bumpers may be trimmed.
16. All doors to be secured with one loop in window area. Driver's door MUST be reinforced with a bar no longer than 3 in front and rear of drivers door seam and must be bolted or welded in a horizontal fashion.
17. A support bar behind the driver's seat is allowed. A steering support will also be allowed. Max 4 diameter round or square tubing with max. 6X6 flat plate on ends of pipe- no galvanized pip allowed. No other cross member allowed to frame vehicle.
18. All windows are to be removed, all broken glass MUST be removed, with NO broken glass to be found in the vehicle. No debris in the car or trunk area, or you will need to clean it out before participating. All combustible/burnable materials must also be removed for your safety.
19. All mirrors and chrome trim must be removed.
20. Stock type bumpers and mounts only, no reinforcing allowed. Bumpers must be bolted to the frame- NO WELDING!
21. No sand or cement in the frames- no modifying or reinforcement.
22. All bumpers must meet 18 max to bottom on bumper on fresh cars, prior-run cars will be inspected.
23. Rear ends may be locked or welded solid.
24. No tires are to be glued or screwed to rims, no fluid or sand in tires. AIR ONLY.
25. Tires must be DOT approved. No larger than 15 rims, SNOW TIRES ARE OK!
26. NO TIRE SIDEWALL FLAPS ALLOWED!
27. Stock gas tanks must be removed. Fuel injected cars may move stock tank to back seat. Marine or snowmobile fuel tanks are preferred, but must be mounted to driver's seat. No more than 5 gallons allowed in the tank during the event. Truck gas tanks must be located toward the front of the box. All gas tanks are to be securely fastened.
NO RUBBER TARP STRAPS ALLOWED. NO PLASTIC FUEL FILTERS ALLOWED.
28. Transmission coolers are allowed--high temp. Hose or stell- double clamped and all hoses MUST be covered.
29. If a cutting torch is brought into the pits you MUST have a fire extinguisher with you.
ARENA RULES
1. No intentional contact with a driver's door- JUDGE'S DISGRESSION.
2. No sand-bagging, as you must use your car to its full capabilities. Cars must make direct contact within one minute of a car not counted out already.
3. NO TEAM DRIVING.
4. NO ALCOHOL IN THE PITS UNTIL THE END OF THE EVENTS.
5. Derby officials have the right to inspect and reject as many cars, while NOT issuing refunds at any time during or after the event.
6. Failure to observe these rules results in disqualification WITHOUT a refund.
7. The top 3 cars may be purchased for $700 cash within 15 minutes of conclusion of event paid by event driver only. Car will be sold complete as ran in finals.
8. No drivers or pit persons shall attempt to speak to any official who is flagging. Bring complaints directly to an official at the announcer's table. Flag men and fireman are watching for everyone's safety. LEAVE THEM ALONE.
9. DO NOT REMOVE YOUR HELMET, SEAT BELT OR LEAVE YOUR CAR WIT IN THE ARENA UNDER THE GREAN FLAG! THIS IS FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY! You may get out during a RED flag WITH an official's approval.
10. 1 fire per car per heat or feature is allowed. 2nd fire disqualifies car from the heat or feature.
11. All cars are being timed and are in contention until the time is up. Then you must break your stick.
12. Winner will be awarded to last car running and having made the last hit. Places will be awarded accordingly. You can still place while under the timer.
13. Unsportsmanlike conduct in the pits or arena by you or your team will be grounds for automatic disqualification.
14. Speed LIMIT in pits is 5 MPH ONLY! Drive Carefully- it is NOT a race track!
THE POLK COUNTY FAIR RACE OFFICIALS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO MODIFY OR AMMEND ANY AND ALL OF THE RULES LISTED HERE OR AT THE EVENT.
